GLOSSYBOX and Birchbox Man August/September 2012

While I was away on vacation I received my August GLOSSYBOX and my husband received his Birchbox Man. Now the Birchbox Man is listed as being the September box but it went out in August. The GLOSSYBOX is in fact listed as August.

I have subscribed to both of these boxes since they started and while I have been mainly underwhelmed I have continued on in hopes that they will get better. Thankfully they seem to be getting there. GLOSSYBOX started out strong and sorta petered out for a big and came back HUGE with this months box. I was really impressed. This months Birchbox Man has been better than the ones previously. One month he got a bag of bacon caramel popcorn. Seriously. So, on with the boxes...

Let me note here, that yes I need a better camera and a better set up for pictures. Work in progress :)

GLOSSYBOX August 2012

This box contained 5 items and man were they good. Let's just start with my favorite, a full size Illamasqua nail polish. That's right. Full Size. Illamasqua. That's a $14 dollar value right off the bat. I had heard that a lot of people were getting some not so desirable colors, but I got an awesome red, called Alarm. Swatched it on a stick already and I can't wait to use it.

But OH, that was not the only full sized item in the box this month. We also received a full size Ellis Faas Creamy Lips. Some people were reporting that they received a Milky Lips in their box, but mine says Creamy Lips. It is color L107 which is according to Sephora "chocolate caramel". Retail value on this is $35.

There were also three other items in the box that, while aren't full size, they are generous. There was Truth Serum by Ole Henriksen, which is supposed to be a facial moisturizer packed full of vitamin C. The serum itself smells like oranges. I love it. I have only used it once but it went on nice and it didn't leave my face all sticky. Full size is $48 for ONE ounce, and this was .5 ounce. Not too shabby.

One of my favorite make up items is primer, and GLOSSYBOX had a new one to try in there. It was from Touch In Sol called Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base. I tried that this morning as I was getting ready and I didn't love it as much as my regulars (right now I am using Sephoras primer). I am going to keep using it to see if maybe I just need to give it some time. This was almost full size, which retails for $20 for 1.13 ounces. The one they sent was 1.06 ounces.

Lastly, there was a small sample of Biolage ExquisiteOil Replenishing Treatment. It is supposed to add shine and "weightless replenishment". Ok shine I get, but what is weightless replenishment??? Well I haven't tried it yet so I guess I will have to wonder until then. Retail price is $22 for 3.1 ounces.

Birchbox Man September 2012

My husband received his Birchbox and it had 5 items in the box. First up was Zirh Clean Face Wash. It retails for $15 for a full sized tube. There was a small packet of Mane Tamer from Oribe, full size $34. Let me just say, there is no way that he would ever EVER pay $34 for hair gel. Included was also Balla Powder, $15 retail. Basically a smelly good talc powder. There was a rather large deluxe sample of BVLGARI Man in the box. Which is a dupe as I had already given him one of these exact samples from Sephora for Fathers Day as part of his gift. Lastly, they sent a pair of boxers. I think that is such a weird item to send out. Underwear to me is such a personal thing, but whatever. They are from MeUndies and it's $32 for a two pack. Must say that he would never pay $32 for a two pack of undies either. He really liked this box and hasn't used anything out of it yet. But if he remarks on any of it I will report back.

Horrible picture of the underwear bag

  1. Underwear? Seriously? How would they know what size to send? Did you have to tell them when you signed him up?

  2. Yep, they totally sent underwear. Blue gingham boxers to be exact. I had to go look at the site and they did ask what size clothing you wore, so they had some sort of an idea. Last month they sent a t-shirt, which didn't really fit, and the first month they sent socks. Now they just need to send pants and he will have a complete outfit ;)
